THE FEMALE TUXEDO IS THE PERFECT AMALGAM OF SEXY AND STRONG.
Work it, ladies. The female tuxedo is here in a myriad of forms so that you can do just that. Our version of the tuxedo is focused, sleeker, cleaner and well... sexier. The most important piece for une femme forte, is the deep, V-neck tuxedo jacket. I like mine lined in black silk or satin and made in materials as such or, more boldly, in crushed velvet or even sequins. No matter what the composition, this jacket is a staple. Plain and simple. Wear a white cotton shirt with a huge, child-like bow around the neck or something more urban, like a vintage t-shirt. Either way, you are sure to turn some heads. Phillip Lim has a rich, sequin tuxedo jacket and then there's Chloe's tailored, velvet number. Both scream holiday.

A perfect combo with the tuxedo jacket |
I love this look because it's chic and playful, but it can also be all business, if that's your deal. Wear jeans and a vintage t-shirt underneath a cropped tuxedo jacket (GAP makes a reasonably priced one) for a more casual, day look. For something more appropriate for your boss (maybe you are THE boss), try a longer sleeved silk tuxedo jacket with a silk blouse and tuxedo slacks paneled in satin (see 3.1 Phillip Lim tux pants below). Wear the same ensemble for an evening out only with a bustier in an animal print.

Menswear doesn't have to equal suit and tie. The tuxedo is classic and strong and speaks volumes about who you want to be... if even just for a night. So go on, black tie it up. It's time to show men everywhere who's boss.
