I ONCE MET A GIRL NAMED FRIDA...

AND SHE PAINTED A KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOR.

FRIDA KAHLO
That's what Resort 2011 is all about... only with a Frida Kahlo cultural twist. We're talking Mexican Riviera. Lots of colorful prints with bright scarves and socks. Jewelry that hangs off of your wrist with a playful Day of the Dead inspiration. Bright pink lip stains, charm bracelets or an army of bangles, big hoop earrings in turquoise and metallic sandals that lace up to your knee, this look is hitting vacation spots everywhere. Before you board that jet to Bora Bora, let's review some essential pieces, shall we?

PRADA
Prada showed us how to play with bright, busy prints by adding fur stoles and color blocked socks with flats. The jewelry and the hair embellishments were heavy this year. Little bows of velvet and cocktails rings bigger than my eyeball, paraded down almost every designer's Resort runway this year.

Resort is allowing us to play with our skirt lengths. Just as Spring forecasted, mid-length or longer are the preference and the more sculpted and A-line the skirt, the better.
VENESSA ARIZAGA BRACELET, $275

With the jewelry, more is more. Pile up with crazy charm bracelets or big bamboo bracelets embellished with gold and silver. Try on a poncho in a color blocked print for the evening. Even tropical islands get breezy at cocktail hour. :)

TOMAS MAIER PONCHO, $995 AT NETAPORTER

I've always believed Resort wear (ie. vacation wear) should be playful and bright and tell a story. If you can't let your guard down while sipping on mojitos and noshing on Spanish olives, when can you? Really? Have some fun this next vacation and become inspired.
