MILAN RECAP - JOHN VARVATOS

WHO KNEW YOKO ONO AND KEITH RICHARDS
WERE CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS?

Apparently Mr. Varvatos has been on some strong acid trips lately in order to come up with this season's version of his trademark boho-rocker style. I'm obsessed with JV - have been since the day I first laid eyes on his work. This season's contribution is no exception. True to form the collection sticks to grays and blacks and browns with subtle pops of color. The designer takes chances in going a bit over-the-top with the distressing of traditionally cut blazers and even fraying edges of suit pants and vests. I honestly had to double take at a few of the images as it literally looked like he was sending various  versions of Yoko Ono and Keith Richards dressed in hobo costumes and world war I uniforms down the runway. The looks of this season borrow from military uniformity, classic seville row tailoring and a dash of subway street kid grunge. I for one think that this show in particular is the most on point with the times of all the men's shows in Milan this year. Varvatos is for me the men's designer both high end and low that is leading the pack and setting the trends in that ever difficult place where high fashion runway meets wearable street style. Check the images below.
