SACRAMENTO HAS A FASHION WEEK:

THAT'S RIGHT. UH HUH.

Stop wiping your eyes... it's time to recognize. Sacramento has a Fashion Week that started three years ago, but this is the first year that its collaborators have decided to "go big." We got a call about a month ago to come to a press party as honored guests to "Sacramento's Fashion Week." With a pause and a bit of bewilderment, Mike and I agreed to attend. We showed up to a room full of incredibly young and incredibly talented designers. Many from Sacramento State University, but some graduates who have been working the fashion circuit here in town for some time just looking for a break. We met one woman who came over from Russia and immediately caught our attention in her harem pants (her own design).

Sac's got some serious fashion talent out there and we're here to give a shout out to the SFW people and their talented posse of designers. Sister|Brother got asked to do a spot on KCRA earlier this week and followed a SFW spokesperson. It was exciting to be part of a fashion community of sorts in Sacramento and one that was being recognized by the media. So while we'd love to feature all of the fabulous designers of SFW, we'll start with a few that stood out to us from the get go.

First up is the uber bubbly and beautiful, Tiana Vega. She greets you with a "Hi Doll" at every encounter (even cyber chats) and seems to have a positive outlook that we cannot deny is slightly infectious. Her boyfriend, Dave Icaranagal, is Tiana Vega's co-founder and also one of the producers of SFW and is so proud of his girlfriend, he's practically busting at the seams. Tiana graduated from FIDM in 2008 and though she's just a baby- by all intensive purposes- this girl's got a healthy following. Her main goal at hand is to design beautiful evening gowns and bridal wear. Check her out.

Next up, we've got the talented ladies of Linzel Couture. Sisters and design partners, Rachel and Lindsey Smith (hence "Linzel") are "creating art through fashion." Literally. Linzel Couture is all about wearable, but fashion-forward pieces. They want to be known as Sacramento's premier Haute Couture designers and are working very hard to get there. Check their designs out below.

And finally... Melissa Kay of Melissa Kay Designs. Melissa Kay used her talent as a designer as a form of therapy as a young woman and has continued down a path of design led by passion and a deeper understanding of what's most important in her life. Here's a little taste of what you should expect from her this weekend.

Don't miss the boat, Sacramento fashionistas. Come out and witness what Sacramento designers have to offer. Everyone starts from somewhere and though Sacramento might not be known as the fashion capital of well... anything.... that doesn't mean we might never be! Let's help put Sacramento on the fashion map by supporting our local designers.

I am sooo excited for the fashion community in Sacramento that there are people out there wanting to put our hometown on the fashion map.
