MILAN RECAP - ZEGNA FALL 2011

THE SULTANS OF THE SEXY SUIT
BRING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Ermenegildo Zegna is best known for their luxurious traditional and beautifully made men's formal wear. Their tailoring has always been precise, offering a suggestion of the man's figure without getting vulgar about it the way some modern designer skinny suits can get.

This season, marking their 20th year selling in the Chinese market, EZ returned to some of the tech oriented synthetic materials they helped introduce to the fashion world and sent their models down the runway in Milan backed by a giant green screen featuring images from the great wall and other chinese cultural images. While the tendency for many during a milestone year would be to look back and revel in tradition, Zegna's collection was notably modern and unlike the silhouettes we are used to seeing from them. Pants were delivered more tapered at the knee and again at the break making for a sexier suggestive figure. Veering from their customary give in the back and shoulders, Zegna's coats appeared in more of an hour glass shape with higher arm holes. While the look was very modern, Zegna managed to slip some of their signature luxury into the mix with some beautiful fur and leather details, some of my favorite examples of which in the collar of some of their blazers. As someone who respects highly the work of this formidable design house, I can honestly say that I always have felt like their clothes were made more for the big wigs on wall street and not necessarily a young fashion conscious guy like myself. This season it feels like Zegna is after me, and delivering exactly what i was looking for. Well done. Check out the images below.
