JFK JR. IS BACK THIS SUMMER

WELL, HIS SHORTS ANYWAY.

We all remember the photos. JFK Jr. dragging his kayak to shore, playing frisbee with his buddies in the park, tossing the ball to his pup - it seemed like every week there was a new pic of the impossibly handsome crowned prince of the US wearing those classic blue swim trunks with the draw string waist and little else. If we're being honest, the man could have been wearing MC Hammer pants and we still would have been fixated. Some people just have "it".

We all wore the damn things. Made from that parachute material in primary colors and troublesome patterns, usually with pockets that filled with water when you got out of the pool. The waist bands would bunch together forgiving absolutely nothing - pushing those few extra pounds up as though being displayed on a shelf. Truth is, the swim trunks of years past were awful. JFK jr. , and pretty much ONLY JFK jr. could pull these things off.

Eventually the surf culture of the 60's and 70's came back around and saved us in the mid 90's and early 2000's making board shorts the one and only acceptable swimwear choice for men for the last two decades. Even JFK Jr. made the switch. See the pic above. For some reason, however, when designers today try to emulate the post camelot prep look that Jr. embodied - they still insist on bringing back those fug drawstring shorts. So, whether I like it or not - here they come. Everybody's doing it... Check out what's coming to stores near you in the next couple weeks. What do you think? Will you be kicking it old school or sticking to your boardies this summer? I say if you must jump on the band waggon keep them short and fitted and always opt for solid or simple. I'm sure most of our dad's will be thrilled to know their swimwear is back in style again!

THERE'S FASHION AND THEN THERE'S FASHIONED

LOGAN REAL DOES IT JUST FOR YOU.

I heard about this guy while at an event in South Beach last week. A friend of mine had seen some sneakers he did for the Miami Heat's Chris Bosh in Ocean Drive Magazine and was Jonezing to have him create something for his leather bike bag. The Miami based artist and designer hand paints leather goods like shoes, purses, wallets and belts, creating one of a kind pieces for his clients that stand out. I checked out his website and found some more images online.

The emerging artist is finally gaining recognition on a national scale having recently signed with Lacoste to design some custom sneakers for the brand. I like to call what he does Re- Fresh- Ing. Think about it, he's taking beautiful items, some already worth thousands of dollars in their own right, and making them priceless. His style is refined yet playful, graphic and fresh. I would love to get a watch band done by this guy.

All I'm saying Sactown is that this guy is primarily out of Miami right now which means if you contact him and get some of your gear hooked up - you'll be no doubt the only kid on the block with a Logan Real Custom piece. Something tells me that whatever you buy today will be worth a LOT more in the years to come. Get in contact HERE.

PULL UP YOUR SHORTS

AND SHOW OFF THOSE GAMS, HONEY.

HIGH-WAISTED DENIM SHORT, DELIA'S $34.50
Okay, so shorts aren't for everyone, but if you've got the legs, you should be working them. Nothing shows off a sweet pair of gams like a high-waisted short. Try it in this season's bold colors like red, orange or turquoise (hello 80s!). Denim works, but so does a flattering twill or tweed or stretched cotton or even silk.

MAJE RED SHORT, $175 BUY AT NETAPORTER
ONE TEASPOON PIXIE HIGH-WAISTED SHORT, $75 AT SINGER22
SASS & BIDE SHORT, $290 BUY HERE
I love this look for Spring with some booties and layered with a cashmere cardi or a cropped jacket. This Summer, tuck in tight with a sleeveless wrapped blouse and some gladiators. This look is so chic.

TO A TEE

MARC HUNDLEY MAKES ART SMART ROCK T-SHIRTS

That guy up above is a pretty savvy and cool artist that has had me confused and interested for a while. Originally from Canada Marc has lived and designed from New York for years now, gaining notice and recognition with exhibitions in places like my beloved Bellwether gallery (where I first saw his work). Marc is known for taking found objects and images, mixing them with words and phrases from obscure music references and forming an all together new and current message. I say that his work confuses me because with art like his, it can sometimes be hard to differentiate between someone just screen printing a random lyric on a pillow, and an artist truly creating something special. I'll leave that determination up to you. If nothing else, I seem to usually be attracted to the messages he selects and on a pure esthetic level like the way his composition looks.

The other day I picked up the latest Lil Wayne Album and was pulled in by the t-shirt he is wearing on the cover. His white t says "If the people stare then let the people stare". I knew immediately that it had to be by Marc. Sure enough, it was. Turns out that Marc has collaborated with Opening Ceremony to make a series of screen print Hanes T-shirts featuring lyrics from bands like the Smiths and Morissey. They are simple, positive and cool. I like the idea of representing the words on a rock t-shirt rather than the rocker. The meat is in the message after all. Check out his looks below and get more info HERE.
